It is very important that we understand Eating Disorders (EDs) beyond their diagnostic labels. On one end of the spectrum lies Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa while Binge Eating is on the other extreme end. Yet, there is one common factor between the three diagnoses – CONTROL. Let’s further analyze the Anorexia Nervosa category to get a better understanding of the nitty gritty of self-starvation.
I look in the mirror and all I think about is how much of a failure I am. Am I broken? Is this my fate? Do I have some miswired fuse in my head that makes me this way? I have suffered from depression through different phases in my life, but the latest one was the most dysfunctional.

It is unfortunate that globalization plays a major, indirect role in promoting eating disorders which includes anorexia nervosa and binge-eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa has been encouraged through the use of traditional media and social while binge-eating disorder has been promoted through the success of macdonalization, location of fast food restaurants, availability of healthy food restaurants and the fact that people now have a sedentary lifestyle.
